Marcella Ratsamy
Painting + Drawing

Marcella’s recent works focus on portraying the Lao people in an effort to preserve her own cultural heritage, particularly that relating to Lao cooking, music, and dance. Marcella’s art explores her tensions of identity while growing up in a multiracial household in America. Her series of paintings derives from childhood memories and old photographs.

(Laos is a small diverse country in Southeast Asia bordered by countries such as Thailand, Burma Vietnam, and Cambodia. It is home to over 140 different ethnic groups.)

Marcella Ratsamy is a first-generation Lao-American artist born in 1997. She is both a painter and photographer with a concentration in portraiture. In her paintings she primarily works with watercolor and acrylic.
