Emily Cole
Photo/Media, Psychology

I am making this work in relation to a specific time in life that I am experiencing. A season of bettering myself in many important facets: mental, physical, spiritual, and more. My goal is to always be improving myself, but at this time, to change the way I think to a more optimistic perspective and to reconnect to some of the moral foundations that I value. In these images, I am focusing on the ways my spirituality can help me grow and give me comfort during this uncertain and transitional time in life. I chose to center this work around a practice within my faith that I feel most connected to: singing worship music. At this time, I feel particularly connected to a song by Chris Renzema called “Springtime.”

I am a graduating Senior at the University of Washington, majoring in Photo/Media and Psychology. I grew up in Enumclaw, a small town south of Seattle. My work is, in general, concerned with family, connection, my experiences, and self-reflection. Through my time in the Photo/Media department, I have challenged myself to become more vulnerable in my work and to reveal sides of myself not many people see.
